CRITERIA AROUND ANIMALS ILLUSTRATED

We partnered with tracking experts to help guide us in choosing the list of animals that would allow you to have the most success with this bandana. We requested animals that met the following criteria:

  • Found across the majority of North America
  • Most abundantly found in the wild
  • That may indicate water nearby
  • That are easy food sources
  • Most useful for side-by-side comparison

FALSE EYE SPOTS

These are a form of mimicry adapted by various insects, birds, fish, and reptiles, as well as by some human cultures. The bandana can be folded so the “eyes” face outward and can be worn on the back of the head to serve the same purpose, or worn on the front while napping.

Beau Harger is our local tracker. He took us out in the field, got our feet wet (and almost got Dustin stuck knee-deep in mud) and gave us the hands-on crash course in tracking. He’s been an integral part in the design of this product and made himself available at all hours of the night to answer questions and continue pushing this design in the right direction.

Jonah Evans (www.naturetracking.com/) is also a fellow Texan with about 2 decades of tracking experience (and who knows how many certifications) but still maintains the humble life-long student attitude, realizing there is always more to learn. He even has an app called iTrack Wildife that is a great learning tool to combine with this bandana.

Mark Elbroch (www.markelbroch.com) helped bring the CyberTracker program to the U.S. and literally wrote the books on tracking. Not just any books, but the books with the most accurate and detailed prints available. He partnered with us to provide the artwork for the bandana and we truly couldn’t have done it without him!

Was skeptical but am happy with it.

Item is pricy to be sure but after comparing it with other ground cloths I see that is just the price of this type of kit in this economy. The gromits are what really jack the price up but they are also what give it so much versatility. Not to mention it is a very compact and light design without being to small. I Will likely get another one when budget allows. And of course there is a lot of good reference material for confusingly similar tracks as well as the more easy to learn animals. Good for a quick reference or teaching someone.

Should've just gotten two of them

I've had this one for about a month now. So far, I've used it as a bindle to carry pointy items that might damage my bandanet. I've used it to sit on the ground, on stumps, and the like. I've used it as a kneeling pad to keep my pant legs dry. I've used it to handle and clear briars. I've folded it in half to use as an improvised oven mitt. I've used it to get a better grip on slippery objects. I've opened stuck jars and bottles with it. I've used it as a flag, once to get someone's attention and several times to mark something from a distance. I've used it as a small tarp to keep things dry during a thunderstorm while I was carrying them. I've wrapped fragile items with it to keep them from shattering. I've used it for fanning. I've used it to estimate area measurements when moving furniture. I've used it as a work surface when fetching things out of a pack or trying to organize my bag. I've even used it as an emergency diaper changing pad; my grand niece seems to like the design, too. I've had "multi-tools" with less functionality! It's not heavy and can be folded or rolled easily. It's become a permanent addition to my left leg pocket, to the extent that it feels unnatural if I don't have it on me. I'm still not sure if I've found every possible use for it, but it wasn't for lack of trying. I've only had it for a month! Despite my best efforts, it has remained clean, undamaged, and looks like new. I just shake any dirt off of it, wipe it clean or rinse it off, and it's ready to go. I've only had one problem with it: if I'm currently using mine for something, then I don't have one to use for anything else! So I'm here to get another one for my right side pocket now.

Taking good and making better

What a great addition to a pack, car or bike. Wazoo has taken their must have bandanna and made it better. Now having the ability to use as a small ground cloth or barrier with all the information of the original. Quality material and stitching. Ruggedness and informative. Again a must have for all
