Gear Questions
Are your products "TSA" Approved?
Here’s a quote directly from the TSA website: “The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint.”
Technically, our products are not “TSA Approved,” however, according to the TSA website, there is no such thing. Agents can use their own discretion to remove objects or personal items that they feel are a threat to the flight. That being said, the Wazoo crew has flown on many domestic and international flights without any incident, testing the scrutiny of the Adventure and Essentials Kit components and Necklaces through the body scanner, magnetometer, and in carry-on luggage. Therefore, we can say with certainty that, depending on the circumstances, you should have no issues getting through TSA with our products.
TSA does provide a list of prohibited items which can be reviewed HERE.

How do I care for the leather cord on my necklace?
Rinse your necklace in fresh water weekly to wash off oils and salts, sliding the toggle up to clean around the knots.
If the leather looks dry, apply a small amount of Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP leather conditioner along the length of the cord to keep it supple.
Can I wear your necklaces in the shower/ocean/river/lake?
Absolutly, YES! We created this product to be worn everywhere, all the time, so that you’re always prepared for any situation.
Wearing the leather necklaces in the shower is actually better for them in the long run, since it assures that you’ll be keeping the leather clean - just as you are keeping your body. Salt water and sweat can affect the integrity of the ferrocerium rod. As with any metal, they can corrode the ferrocerium rod if left on for an extended period of time. When rinsing off the necklace, make sure to move the ferrocerium rod up and down the leather to completely rinse off any residue from all parts of the necklace.
Can I adjust the length of the necklaces?
Yes, the Spark™, Viking Spark™, and Viking Whetstone™ all feature our innovative quick-release and removable clasp, which allows you to cut the leather to get a truly perfect fit.
Visit the User Manual page for any of these necklaces to learn how to adjust the overall length of the necklace.
The Bushcraft™ uses sliding Double Fisherman's knots that adjust while wearing the necklace.
How should I clean my whetstone?
Sometimes, whetstones can get a little clogged up with oils from the skin or small shavings from use. To avoid this, make sure you are rinsing the whetstone with fresh water often, and we always recommend wearing it in the shower to prevent this build up from happening.
If it seems like this may be happening to your stone you can do the following to clean it.
- Rub the stone under running water with your fingers to remove some of the oils
- To give the stone a deep cleaning, use a nylon brush (like a toothbrush) and some mild dish soap, like dawn, to scrub the stone. This should help loosen any build up.
Why is my hat discoloring?
There are a few common reasons why your hat may show discoloration over time:
Sweat + Body Oils: Yellowish stains are typically caused by sweat, body oils, and everyday grime.
Chemical Reactions: Orange discoloration often comes from chemicals interacting with the fabric, including:
- Swimming: Wearing your hat after a swim can leave chlorine and pool chemicals in your hair that transfer to your hat.
- Facial Products: Lotions, sunscreen, and acne treatments (especially benzoyl peroxide) may cause orange stains.
- Haircare Products: Certain gels, sprays, or treatments can also lead to fabric discoloration.
Fading of Black Fabric: There’s no true “black” dye in natural fibers like cotton. Over time, sun exposure and washing will gradually fade black fabric to lighter tones.
To extend the life of your hat, avoid wearing it immediately after applying products or swimming, and follow our recommended hat care tips.
What happens if I have to use my gear? Or damage it when using it?
That’s what it’s for! Whether you used your Cache Belt™ to fend off a troop of baboons or your duct tape to rig up the ultimate selfie stick, we love hearing how our gear saves the day.
- Refill Options: Many of the items in our Cache Kits™ are available as individual refills, so you can easily restock your everyday carry gear.
- Gear Stories: If you’ve got an epic story about using Wazoo Gear in the wild (or in the city), send it our way; we might even replace the item free of charge.
Our mission is to make gear that solves problems, big or small. Use it, refill it, and keep on adventuring.
Shipping Questions
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! Wazoo Gear ships worldwide – we’ve already delivered orders to over 127 countries and counting.
Shipping rates are automatically calculated at checkout based on your order size, shipping destination, and the selected carrier. For certain regions, only upgraded carriers like DHL Express or UPS Worldwide are available. This is because standard USPS International shipping has proven unreliable in those areas, and we want to guarantee your gear arrives safely.
How long does it take to receive my gear?
Once you place an order, our team typically ships it within 1–3 business days. We’re a small company and do not process orders on weekends.
Delivery time depends on the shipping method you choose at checkout:
- Standard Shipping – USPS First Class: Usually 3–7 business days (USA orders)
- Expedited Shipping – USPS Priority: Usually 1–3 business days
- Priority Express Shipping – USPS Express: Usually 1 business day
- International Shipping: Varies by country and carrier option chosen at checkout
We ship to most countries worldwide, and upgraded carriers (like DHL Express or UPS Worldwide) may be required for certain regions to ensure reliable delivery.
An item I ordered is "Pre-Order," what does that mean?
A pre-order item is currently out of stock but already in production and on its way back into inventory. Pre-ordering reserves your gear so you’ll be first to receive it once it’s restocked.
- Shipping Timeline: Orders with both in-stock and pre-order items will ship once the pre-order item arrives.
- Estimated Ship Dates: Expected shipping dates are listed on each product page, so you know when to expect your gear.
- Need your in-stock items sooner? Contact us, and we’ll work with you on split-shipping options.

Why do you no longer stock the paracord survival bracelets?
Our paracord survival bracelets put Wazoo on the map, but over time, our designs and mission evolved. We realized we were wearing our newer creations, like the Cache Belt™, Cache Cap™, and Cache Kits™, far more often than the bracelets. These updated designs allow us to carry more tools, offer more customizability, and align better with our goal of making compact, reliable, everyday carry gear.
While we’re grateful for the huge support of our paracord bracelets (and still get requests for them all the time), retiring them freed up time and resources to create innovations like our fire-starting necklaces, foraging bandanas, and Merino wool Cache Beanie™.
