The hand-cut, genuine Arkansas Novaculite whetstone gives you the ability to sharpen tools, large and small. All the while, the ceramic scraper nests inconspicuously on the back side of the pendant. Bought 3 Viking Sparks

I’ve bought 3 Viking Sparks within the last month. That alone should say it all. Will buy a few more for holiday gifts also. Used one of mine today while with my wife hiking the upper Wasatch range in the Utah Rockies…11,000’. Temp dropped 20 degrees within 5 minutes, not uncommon at high altitude. Was prepared with heavy hooded sweatshirts, warm hiking boots, ski caps, scarves, and xtra sox and boots, and Levi’s. I always carry a machete and a Leatherman. Plenty of simple food and lots of water. Pack is pretty heavy, but I’m ready to survive. I do this as I have been caught in some unbelievable weather changes that produced torrents of rain ( while the sky was blue 3 miles away in Nevada), that came in so fast that you have no choice but to wait it out. Used my 1st Viking Spark today when the temp dropped and my wife and I were getting chilly. Within 3 minutes I had a fire going. You think I wasn’t thrilled with that result?

What is the Viking Spark™?

A stylish, wearable accessory that combines the capabilities of our fire-starting and tool-sharpening necklaces into one streamlined pendant.

How do I use the Viking Spark™ to start a fire?

Slide the ferro rod down the leather cord and deploy the ceramic from behind the whetstone. With the ferro rod braced securely in one hand and the ceramic pinched firmly in the other, scrape the edge of the ceramic down the length of the ferro rod to shower sparks onto your tinder.

What materials are used to make the Viking Spark™?

The stone itself is Arkansas Novaculte, one of the most renowned sharpening stones in the world. The ceramic is Zirconia, one of the hardest man-made materials in existence. The toggle is ferrocerium, an impressive compound that our ancestors likely would have killed for. And it’s all brought together by a genuine cowhide leather cord, making a necklace that, like you, only gets better with age.

Can the Viking Spark™ be worn during physical activities or in wet conditions?

Absolutely! Rain, snow, swimming, even showering is fair game. Wear it like any other waterproof necklace but give it a quick rinse after sweating or exposure to salt water to protect the ferro rod from corrosion.

Do I use water or oil while using the whetstone?

Either. It will naturally absorb oils from your skin but you can also use water to build up a slurry that further aids in the sharpening process.

Can I travel with the Viking Spark™?

As of this writing, there are no TSA restrictions against flying with a Viking Spark™. Keep in mind, however, that it is always up to the TSA agent on duty that day. We recommend checking current TSA regulations before flying.

How can I keep the leather soft?

Actually, the best thing to do is wear it - it will absorb natural oils from your skin and keep it well conditioned. If it does start to dry out at any point, simply give it a coat of your favorite leather conditioner.
