Great product

I love this pendent the ceramic sharpens really well and its not super heavy on my neck. Easy to move to a key chain if you want. One area of growth is I wish the ceramic striker have a sharpened edge to make it easier to use and more versatile for making tender or cutting tape.

Gift for boyfriend

It is a remarkable gift both aesthetically and functionally! My boyfriend loves it and rarely leaves the house without putting it on. The quality is very nice especially for the price. Highly recommend for anyone who loves the outdoors or just cool necklaces in general! 😁

Quick shipping, poor quality

Was super excited to receive my order. A Viking spark, and a fire starter keychain. Literally 24hrs later the Viking spark is corroded by the sweat from mowing the yard. Very disappointed.

Loving it so far! I've been wearing it on multiple hikes and roadtrips, but used the sharpener for the first time on a trip to new mexico to touch-up the blade on my benchmade bushcrafter. After a few passes on the blade and stropping on the leather cord, I'm very happy with the results. Haven't tried making a campfire with the ferro rod yet but I did test it and it throws out some serious sparks. Overall it's a great tool for the size and would recommend to anyone looking for a good field sharpener and emergency fire starter.

Worth it

The necklace itself is awesome, the stone sharpens my knife and keeps it sharp when in use and the cord is strong and is soft around my neck. The only problem I’ve had is with the Ferro rod corroding heavily with sweat. I wasn’t aware that would happen, I thought the coating on them prevented corrosion, but I’ve also never worn a ferro rod on a necklace before. Overall, I really do enjoy the necklace and would buy it again, just without the ferro rod next time.

How do I use the Viking Spark™ to start a fire?

Slide the ferro rod down the leather cord and deploy the ceramic from behind the whetstone. With the ferro rod braced securely in one hand and the ceramic pinched firmly in the other, scrape the edge of the ceramic down the length of the ferro rod to shower sparks onto your tinder.

What materials are used to make the Viking Spark™?

The stone itself is Arkansas Novaculte, one of the most renowned sharpening stones in the world. The ceramic is Zirconia, one of the hardest man-made materials in existence. The toggle is ferrocerium, an impressive compound that our ancestors likely would have killed for. And it’s all brought together by a genuine cowhide leather cord, making a necklace that, like you, only gets better with age.

Can the Viking Spark™ be worn during physical activities or in wet conditions?

Absolutely! Rain, snow, swimming, even showering is fair game. Wear it like any other waterproof necklace but give it a quick rinse after sweating or exposure to salt water to protect the ferro rod from corrosion.

Do I use water or oil while using the whetstone?

Either. It will naturally absorb oils from your skin but you can also use water to build up a slurry that further aids in the sharpening process.

Can I travel with the Viking Spark™?

As of this writing, there are no TSA restrictions against flying with a Viking Spark™. Keep in mind, however, that it is always up to the TSA agent on duty that day. We recommend checking current TSA regulations before flying.

How can I keep the leather soft?

Actually, the best thing to do is wear it - it will absorb natural oils from your skin and keep it well conditioned. If it does start to dry out at any point, simply give it a coat of your favorite leather conditioner.
